Lions Fall Update – Las Vegas Sevens Feb 2012

If you don’t already know, the Lions lost to Belmont Shore (who would go on to win the National Championship 2011) in a closely contested Quarterfinal Game. However, the Lions did go on to beat several other very good teams and came away with the Plate Championship. See video of games HERE.

Not wanting to wait until June to play sevens again, the team has decided to once again head out west in February 2012 and play in the Las Vegas Invitational. As of now, the Lions are in the Elite bracket with international teams such as Russia and Chile that could not fit   into the pool of 16 teams for the IRB Sevens tournament that headlines this event. The Elite bracket is set to compete on Thursday February 9th and Friday the 10th, with the Championships played on Saturday the 11th (Final possibly to be played in the Stadium).

Help the Lions Sevens Team Get to Nationals

The Road to the National Championship

After winning their 5th consecutive Midwest title, the Lions’ Sevens team are making their fifth consecutive National Championship appearance where they won it all in 2007. Year in and year out, the Lions have proven themselves to be one of the top Sevens programs in the country. Boasting several All-Americans and Eagles, past and present, the Lions Sevens team is Nationally revered, but it hasn’t come cheap. In an attempt to seek out the highest level of competition, the Lions must appear in tournaments all over the country, and without generous contributions from sponsors and private investors, the trophy case would be a lot lighter. Here’s where you can be a part of the glory. It has always been that the Chicago Lions Sevens Team extends far beyond the players on the field, and your generous contributions will help pave the road to victory for the Lions. We need your help raising $10k for travel expenses before the National Championship Tournament, set to take place in 2 WEEKS! Yes, 2 weeks. The team has sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears all summer for one thing; a first place finish at Nationals and the chance to represent the entire Lions network on the National stage. Be a part of something bigger than just a rugby team, and when the final whistle blows, you can share the thrill of victory.

Contribute to our success

On behalf of the Chicago Lions, we greatly appreciate your help in reaching our goal for a National Championship!

Lions Squeak out Victories in Milwaukee

Chicago Lions Sevens Team went 3-0 in pool play in matches against Madison, Impalas, and YoungBloodz. In the Semifinal they defended well against Milwaukee and in the final managed to put away the YoungBloodz once more. Still lot’s to work on but the team is starting to come around. Article on the tournament can by found at www.rugbymag.com

Special thanks to the Lions alumni that made the trip up to Milwaukee and later bought my dinner at Irish Pub!

Lions Sevens players Peter Tiberio and JP Eloff were in action over the weekend way out west playing for the All Americans against the NZ Universities. Tiberio had a hat-trick and JP was instrumental in directing the offense at Flyhalf.
